One of my favorite places to be is in the company of like-minded people. It’s a joy to come across people who share the same values and view on life as I do. Usually I find myself in these situations during a meeting, conference, etc. discussing topics focused on helping others grow into themselves or our own personal growth. This past weekend I had this great opportunity when I got together with a handful of other folks who are training to become Guides as I am currently in my new job. Before heading into the gathering, there’s always a part of me that is nervous because I’m going to be spending time with strangers, and wondering, “Will we click? Will I get to be me?” Thankfully in this case, immediately I felt safe and welcomed. As we went around and spoke about our stories and the mentor that we look up to, I felt alive, at peace, and perfectly happy just sitting there. I was impressed and inspired by everyone’s triumphs and struggles as they openly and vulnerably shared. I loved that this is the forum in which I have been blessed to be a part of. Where else do you just lay it all out there within meeting each other for a few minutes? Where else do you not have to open with saying, “Hi, my name is Reaksmey and I have a BA in Psychology and an MA in Counseling and I am [insert job position and employer name]. To dive right into who you are and to share your heart and passion- wow- that’s my cup of tea! It’s in these moments that I am reminded that it’s being in the company of like-minded people that I am encouraged to “grow into myself.”
When you look at those that are in your company, do you find that they’re like-minded? If not, how can you find more people who share your values and beliefs?
